Preliminary Rounds - Match #1: Sousuke Sagara vs Suzaku Kururugi

Round 1: Close Quarter Combat

A Common skill for a military soldier to have is the training and experience in the art of close quarter combat, either it be hand to hand combat or usage of firearms it is crucial for one to be skilful in this portion of war, so let’s start with Sgt Sousuke Sagara.

Through most of his childhood Sousuke Sagara was a trained military soldier having to place himself in the frontline of war along with his fellow comrades having to face dangerous threats every day in fear for the safety of himself and his squad, overtime he gained the experience and skills to earn the rank as Sergeant at such an early age. It’s because of this fact that Sousuke is much disciplined and follows orders appropriately and carries out missions in his own manor, he also learned a vast knowledge of weaponry and military combat tactics. He is also skilled in winning close quarter combat battles by any means, from utilizing his arsenal of guns and grenades to conquering the battle in a one on one fist-fight, overall this proves that Sousuke Sagara is a well-documented and well experience veteran only on his way to getting better. These skills also aid him in his mission over the protection of high school student and love interest Kaname Chidori.

However can Suzaku Kururugi dominate over Sousuke? Unlike Sousuke, Suzaku wasn’t trained from childhood in the art of war instead he was brought up with a simple childhood with his father the prime minister of Japan whom he ended up killing. As a result he developed a self-righteous personality and always stuck up for people and sacrificed himself to save others in order to atone for his father’s death. However his skills in close quarters combat is well supported with his physical prowess. For example the ability to outrun and destroy a camera-mounted machine gun with a lag time of 0.05 seconds without being struck once; this also applies to multiple Knightmare Frames who could not even land a single hit on Suzaku with their own machine guns. He also has training in hand to hand combat and usage of firearms, and at many times Suzaku displays great physical endurance and superhuman capabilities, not to mention the apprehension of his new found geass power “the will to live”, the ability to utilize all attack and defence procedures to maintain survival in combat which was given to him by his best friend Lelouch. Suzaku Kururugi is truly a destructive and devastating force to be reckoned with, and by this fact along with countless others I award the first point to Suzaku Kururugi, based on the fact that he can out-run and manhandle anything that Sousuke can.

Round 2: Mechas  - Lancelot vs Arbalest

Now instead of analysing the characters themselves it’s time to observe the power and capabilities of their most loyal machines, The Arbalest and The Lancelot. Personally this is a very difficult match to judge, mainly because of the era of time that these two mechs live in are completely different along with the technology itself, but nonetheless let’s begin with the Lancelot.

The Lancelot is used by Suzaku Kururugi and is one of the best and strongest mechs in the Code Geass series, Suzaku was given the responsibility to use this mech as a mere test dummy in case something went wrong, however that was not the case as this cemented Suzaku’s legacy as a mech pilot. During its first battle the Lancelot was able to take out a group of terrorists controlling the Britannian Knightmare Frames with almost no effort what so ever, The Lancelot was also used to destroy entire armies on its own. The Lancelot also has great speed and power when in the command of Suzaku Kururugi , a good advantage it has is the fact that it’s able to equip itself with enhanced modifications such as a floating system, a F.L.E.I.J.A and many others. The Lancelot was the first 7th generation Knightmare Frame that paved the way for strgoner Knightmare Frames and set the standard for all future pilots, however against The Arbalest there is not much to be said.

The Arbalest was a customized M9 made to house and experiment the use of the Lambda Driver, this Arm Slave also has its very own sophisticated AI system thus only allowing Sousuke himself to pilot it, and this gives him the advantage because Suzaku’s Knightmare doesn’t have this feature. But the primary advantage that the Arbalest has over the Lancelot would be most notably the Lambda Driver; a utility within the Arbalest that possesses the ability to turn mental power into physical power meaning that no matter how hard the Lancelot can fight the Arbalest, Sousuke’s mental power would be more than enough to triumph over the Lancelot. The only flaw being that the pilot must be placed in a life threatening situation in order to unlock its full potential and even though we have seen Sousuke fail to use the Lambda Driver on many occasions he still brought the will power when he needed it and has always triumphed in the most crucial and violent of battles, thus giving the victory to Sousuke and the Arbalest.

Round 3: 1v1 Situation

Scenario: Madam Captain Testarossa has assigned Sosuke Sagara to a special mission to eliminate a threat that is single handily wiping out all his fellow comrades and soldiers in the country of Britannia, Sousuke gears up and travels whilst taking the Arbalest. Sousuke arrives and is seen standing toe to toe with a strange Whilte Arm Slave, meanwhile inside this White mech we see Honorary Britannian Suzaku Kururugi speaking with Lloyd Asplund, the scientist who created the Lancelot through a video chat. They begin to talk about the strange Knightmare Frame that is in front of them however Lloyd isn’t worried as he is confident in the Lancelot’s abilities, Suzaku charges up to the Arbalest and attempts to do a spinning kick, however Sousuke blocks the attack using the power of the Lambda Driver. Suzaku and Lloyd are stunned as the Arbalest charges up to the Lancelot, however Suzaku manages to evade each of Sousuke’s attacks due to the incredible speed of the Lancelot, both Sousuke and Suzaku realize that they have encountered the most difficult opponent that they have ever faced so far and proceed to battle. No matter how hard they try it all ends the same, the Lancelot evades the strikes whilst the Arbalest blocks, however Sousuke has finally had enough of this and decides to finish it by blasting the Lancelot with the power of the Lambda Driver, Suzaku quickly flees the Lancelot and proceeds to run into an abandoned building, as Sousuke attempts to chase after him his AI system warns him that there is a system failure within the Arbalest and requires time to recharge, however Sousuke merely leaves the Arbalest and follows Suzaku into the building promising that he will complete the mission one way or another.

As Sousuke searches the building Suzaku comes jumping from a corner and spin kicks Sosuke’s assault rifle out of his hands, however a prepared Sousuke pulls out his hand gun and begins shooting at Suzaku, however his efforts are meaningless as Suzaku manages to evade each bullet with incredible speed. Sousuke is shocked by the performance of his adversary and with great haste tosses a grenade at Suzaku, Suzaku uses his quickness and rolls behind a nearby wall, dives into another room and covers his head while in a crouching position. A few seconds pass and Suzaku notices there is no explosion, he then stands up and is punched in the face by Sousuke realizing that the grenade was a mere decoy to distract and fool Suzaku. As Suzaku reaches for a counter attack Sousuke then throws a flash bang that blinds Suzaku, after the effects of the flash bang were off Suzaku searches the building for Sousuke, meanwhile Sousuke is trying to find his assault rifle that Suzaku had kicked from his hand earlier within the previous room in order to gain the upper hand. Suzaku encounters various booby-traps planted by Sousuke and manages to barely evade them using his quick reflexes and coordination, Sousuke however finally retrieves his assault rifle and begins to hunt down Suzaku, he finds Suzaku and begins to shoot however no bullets appear. Suzaku explains that he had momentarily grabbed the assault rifle back when he evaded the decoy grenade, emptied the clip and tossed it back without Sousuke ever noticing. Sousuke is shocked yet impressed with the strategy of his opponent, both men decide that the time for running and hiding is over and both engage in hand to hand combat. During their battle Sousuke becomes more overwhelmed because of Suzaku’s speed and agility, whilst on the edge of death he experiences flashing images of Kaname Chidori begging and pleading for Sousuke to continue fighting this fight. Sousuke is now motivated by these flashes and begins to hold his own and overcome Suzaku’s physical prowess, however as Suzaku also falls into the brink of defeat he is reminded of his geass command by his best friend Lelouch vi Britannia “to live” and begins to rise and stand in equal ground to Sousuke. With both men near total demise Sousuke concocts a desperate plan and flees to the Arbalest, Suzaku panics and tries to re-enter his Lancelot however Sousuke uses all his effort and lands one final attack with the Arbalest fully charged on Suzaku killing him within an enormous blast of energy, pleased that he survived Sousuke then departs back to Mithril and relay his report.
