Quarter Finals - Match #3: Shizuo Heiwajima vs Revy

Round 1 – Brains
Tonight we present the battle of two badass characters, Shizuo Heiwajima from Durarara! vs. Revy from Black Lagoon, starting with Revy. Revy is one of the most aggressively insane characters in the Anime Industry with her hot tempered personality and gun blazing attitude, and with that being said her intellect is really not impressive as other characters such as Light Yagami and L from Death Note. In all seriousness Revy has to be one of the most irrational and illogical people in Black Lagoon based on her temper alone, it’s been proven that on various occasions that Revy can never solve a problem through strategizing and must always rely on her dual wield pistols to fix everything, sometimes for better and sometimes for worse. However that doesn’t mean she is in any case a low educated person as she has great tactical manoeuvers in long-range and mid-range combat and shows signs of great social knowledge and knowledge of the underground world.

Shizuo Heiwajima like Revy is very aggressive and has a very hot temper, arguably one that is even worse than Revy herself, this is based on Shizuo’s anger problems that cause his body to go haywire and wreak havoc on unsuspecting bystanders. Similar to Revy, Shizuo is very skilled in close quarters and mid-range combat with his weapon of choice being anything in the vicinity that is in grabbing distance to him, most notably street signs. However he too is not very bright when it comes to intellectual things, he shows this through his many battles with Izaya. During combat with archrival Izaya Orihara, Shizuo is always victim to one of Izaya’s traps such as being lured into oncoming cars. However one thing about Shizuo is the fact that he is resistant to persuasion which is prevalent when Izaya attempts to deceive him, because Shizuo has great anger for him he never believes his words and can never be manipulated by his tricks rendering his abilities of deception useless.

But with that being said he can also not control his temper at times which cause him to go completely berserk sometimes not even realizing his own actions whereas Revy is somewhat in control and can keep calm when in tough situations with the help of her dual wield pistols, so with that I award this round to Revy.

Round 2 – Bronze
Revy is well known in the Anime Community as one of the most bad-ass female characters in the Industry based on her attitude and foul language however this is also backed up by her physical attributes. Revy’s weapon of choice would be her trusty dual wielded pistols that have aided her in many tough situations in the series, she is also very skilled in mid-range and long-range combat though she is very exceptional in close quarters as well. Revy also has tremendous acrobatic skills and dexterity as shown by her ability to jump off and onto moving boats whilst destroying them in the process, she is also an expert marksman when it comes to projectile based weaponry such as her pistols and many assault rifles, she also has a good physical endurance being able to fight for long periods of time much like her battle against the Lethal Maid Roberta.

Shizuo definitely has a alternative style of fighting to Revy, for example he does not feel the need to use things such as guns and knives because of his superhuman like capabilities and amazing physical prowess. Shizuo makes a habit of using his surroundings to his advantage by ripping street signs from the ground and utilizing them for close quarters and mid to long range combat, he also has the physical capacity to lift drastically heavy objects such as vending machines and even motor vehicles. He also has the physical endurance to withstand a large amount of pain to such an extent that he cannot feel anything, for example: when he was victim to a hit and run assault he described the feeling as him just tripping over but realizing he was shot instead. He also has the capabilities to fight a crowd of people much like he did when facing the crowd of savage knife wielders and managing to survive after many brutal cuts.  It is obvious that Shizuo outmatches and outclasses Revy in Bronze as he is dominant in physical prowess, physical endurance and the capabilities of enduring pain, so for Round 2 I award Shizuo Heiwajima.

Round 3 – 1v1 Situation
Scenario: Revy has been sent on an assassination mission to capture a suspect believed to be responsible for the murder of a soldier who worked under Balalaika’s orders, Revy arrives in the city of Ikebukuro to search for her suspect “Shizuo Heiwajima”. Meanwhile Shizuo is walking through the streets of Ikebukuro on his way to see a friend, Revy then finds Shizuo and approaches him, she demands that Shizuo is to accompany her back to HQ however Shizuo is becoming irritated by her appearance. Revy becomes very frustrated and angry over Shizuo’s behaviour and decides to force him by pointing a gun to his face, Shizuo is furious by Revy and warns her to leave or else she will get hurt. Revy begins to taunt Shizuo only to fuel his anger more, Shizuo then violently rips a street sign from the ground and swings it against Revy, Revy evades this attack but is very shocked by it. She then runs near cover and attempts to shoot at Shizuo, Shizuo then flips a nearby table and uses it as a shield, he then sprints towards another street sign and throws it to Revy. She dodges it however Shizuo continues to throw countless more signs at Revy; Revy is shocked yet excited by this new enemy she has encountered,  she decides to get to higher ground and hope to immobilize Shizuo at a distance.

Revy begins to scour a building and uses it as a vantage point for battle, Shizuo enraged with anger begins to toss debris all towards Revy, however this effort becomes meaningless as she is at too far of a distance to target accurately. Revy then uses her marksman skills to shoot Shizuo in his legs and chest, she believes she has beaten him and checks her victim, she notices that Shizuo is not moving and assumes he has died. Revy doesn’t seem to take about the mission and is happy with the outcome.

However Shizuo fuelled by pure rage stands up and sprints towards Revy with a street sign, Revy turns around shocked to see Shizuo standing, and she then evades the attack and begins to engage in close quarters combat. However Revy’s strikes don’t seem to affect or damage Shizuo in the slightest as he finally lands a hit on Revy, he then begins bashing Revy’s body into the ground violently with her blood gushing out of her body after every blow. Shizuo assumes she is defeated and walks away, Revy still conscious crawls towards a shard of glass and throws it at Shizuo, Shizuo suddenly turns around and catches the shard with his mouth and throws a street sign towards her piercing Revy’s body.  Shizuo now believes he has won and continues going where he was meant to go in the first place.
